About	The bird looked like it was baiting the alligator. The gator opened it's jaws and I was expecting it to lunge toward the bird at any moment. This was in the wild and the 500 mm lens allowed me to observe at a safe distance.

Bob all it takes for the Nikon lens is lots of money!!!!!!!. I have a 500 mirror that I would sell very cheap. Have never gotten a real good image. This is a great wildlife picture. Don.

Kim, you are correct, the image isn't sharp. As you suggested, I ran the image through PS. Had to back off after pushing the sharpening too far. Reasons for fuzziness starts with the cheap mirror lens. It never gives good results. Also the image is cropped, and I think the scanner is not giving optimal results. The telephoto lens did prove to me that I could use a good one. Would like to get a new Nikon lens with image stabilization. Yah!
