I think that this picture its pretty good, besides has some blurred, also I can say that this young man gave a perfect point of his silhouette The colors not really alive but a little perfect, the sport plus the skating and the Hockey are very good, Keep trying with this kind pictures and those effects in the ice
Well, advice? Hmm, I'm no expert in that, I'm just amateur like you.. But will try to write some words...
What did u want from this photo? If u want subject (person) clear and sharp u have to use high shutter speed, depending on how high is speed of subject..but in skating, u can try with 1/500 or 1/1000... of course, and it depend on how much light u have there.. it there's no much light, then put ISO value on 400 or 800... when u take photo, once with iso 200, other time with iso 400 and after that with iso 800 u will see diference.. quality of photo is best with low iso (100 or 200)...
i see your lens is very good, with f 1,8... that gives u more chance to take photos in dark places..
with all those numbers u have to practice.. best way to learn is not from book, but from practice.. sometimes we make 500 photos, but only 3-4 would be ok, but that's how we learn.. :-)
Silhouette is nice, but what was the shutter speed? I'm confused, little bit.. head is so clear, and legs blured...like u took panning shoot, but i wouldn't say that, cause of background..
