:) interesting comments...and so true...there is more there than first meets the eye...the longer you look the more you are drawn in to try and deciper what it is...certainly the lack of emotion, but something else as well....great work.
Cheers
Liz

It's simple square composition and her lack of emotion is it's strength. The viewer has to look deep into the image to see what they can. For me, there's something old about her, like she's in the wrong era and place. I think it's her pose, from when women were undemonstrative and people stood right in front of the camera as the photographer disappeared behind the black cloth.
Anyway, welcome to usefilm and what a fine start!
Regards, Gary

This is a wonderful photograph... elegant, simple and beautifully composed. I agree with Jan's comment... there are multiple levels of meaning at work here. Very, very good.

Hmm. I agree with Jan. Looking at the thumnail I thought the shadows unfortunate and she's hate it but that was making an assumption about your intent.
Powerfuly framed, I think. It has an effect like a dolly zoom on that innocuous background.
My first thoughts then (at thumb level) was this is a merely unflattering photo but you've made her a hero.
Ultraordinary photo James! :)

Hey, welcome to Usefilm, James!
This is a nice portrait, but I would refrain from putting subjects dead center. Placing her to one side or another helps the dynamics of the shot.

Thank you very much, what a fantastic comment. Also, yes this is full frame.

James -- Welcome to USEFILM. This is an excellent portrait in its simplicity; the elements of a "snapshot" yet something more complex hidden under the covers. Somewhat of a look and pose in the American Gothic style. Well done and I look forward to seeing more of your photos. I assume this is full frame and uncropped?
--Best regards, Jan
