Friend, I don't ask to shoot ahead of time, but I try to stay imconspicuous. I am actually just cruising the streets and shooting right from the drivers seat of my car. Bear in mind this is an extremely small town (1500 people)so usually everybody knows everybody's business. I don't try for the perfect shot right out of the camera...I get a nice full house shot and then crop down to my porch shot if I like the way it turns out. Some of these are way out in the country and for those I use a good telephoto. It does feel a little creepy, like you're spying on people, but after seeing my shots I'm so in love with this series that I figure I'm doing it for my art! :) If someone wants to stop and talk to me, I'd gladly offer them a photo. What really draws me to these pics are the little things, a little statue, a welcome sign, the flag snagged on something, the peeling paint, a wind chime....it just makes it so charming to me.
I'm glad you like them.....I'd like to see yours too, so get out there and shoot!
Another nice shot dear Laurie! I wanted to ask. I have thought about shooting these types of shots before and there are some nice ones to shoot here in my area but I always feels alittle strange about pointing my camera at someones house. Don't know why really but with things like they are in this day and age a photographer has to be careful. Do you ever ask to shoot ahead of time? This has really strong line to it which is what I like best on this photo. The lighting and the shadows as well. You seem to always get great lighting for you shots in this series! :) Nice job......... 7+ Congrats!
