Wonderful colours and shape. So effective to see that ladder go diagonally with the flag pointing upwards. Really gives a sense of size too.

Love the tall, thin presentation of this shot Jan...nice diagonal with the flag positioned right at the top making a statement :)

Very interesting exercise with lines. You certainly got the diagonals for interest. The vertical crop and clear blue sky work here. Well done. Thank for sharing.

Have a great day.

Of course, you could always do what one of the LB moderators used to do, print out the photo, then lensbaby that! Makes it easier to get a pic that works, rather than trying to get it right in an instant, as is so often the case.

Good luck with it!

Alain -- Thanks for your comments and I agree with you; I did my days jumping and climbing in the military when I was much younger but the current day notion of being on that ladder is not something I would consider.

Mel -- Thanks so much for commenting. I took this before I had the Lens-baby but I agree with your idea. In fact, your kind of vision is what I need to do some exercising on; I need to learn to see picture opportunities in different ways. Doyle Chastain has taught me to start thinking more about color/B&W/tonal decisions and your visions are leading me to take a less mechanistic view of what is around me. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi jan,
those fire ladders are quite a length aren't they?
Wouldn't see me getting up there retrieving your stars and stripes my friend:)
But apart from my fear of heights this is indeed really graphic image with such a blue sky!
Best regards,

Alain

I can see this done with a lensbaby, the flag sitting on top of this lovely long blurred ladder.....particularly if you'd have been able to get under it a bit more.....

I'm a shocker, don't mind me Jan. This is a wonderful graphic the way it is, well done.

Take care
Mel
