I agree Jon. It all seems childish and petty to me. And the media just exacerbates this. I don't think Canadians naturally have that sort of confrontational attitude. It's been indoctrinated into us through the media and Government Propoganda.

I'm from Alberta, and I love French, but the Canadian Government has forced me to be adversarial with "the French".

And this is just one example in many.

Well not how we normally think of ourselves, no... except the more we examine relations between different elements of the federation - tensions between sovereigntist and federalist in Quebec, or aboriginal and non-aboriginals on the prairies (or at Ipperwash and Kahnestawake [sp?]), it does seem that the consensus model is being dispensed with in favour of the nose-to-nose shouting-at-each-other approach.
