           | SHE is NOT me...
I have never been to Costa Rica and I think SHE has great potential... I like the branch, it adds atmosphere, and as far as photography 101... If you must follow the rules, you can't be creative...
I make my own rules and the only one that has to like them is me.

That's why I am the busiest photographer in Miami, cause I never bought a Photography for Dummies 101 book.

           | Patri...,or Pat?...this is a critique site and it is always helpful to give honest feedback...like i already said,i agree with Paul's comment as well as honestly feel that the branch takes away from the composition...removing,or not including distracting elements in a shot is photography 101,amateur or pro.....
a good example would be from what i remember of the work you used to post here...you seemed to be aware of distracting elements for the most part...i do like that you can see a portion of the natural setting, but seriously, that two-pronged branch is quite distracting to say the least...

you have your opinion and i have mine...if "she" was a pro,"she" more than likely would not be here to learn and improve..."she" is obviously on the right track and i look forward to seeing how "she" progresses...

hope all is well for you in San Jose,or FLA.?
Surprised to see you here as Peta recently left me a comment saying that you were definitely gone from UF...regards,gayle

           | Good effort tho'?
Sorry Ms. Gayle but the background is what makes the image. Branch or no branch. It is extremely hard to get a backlit image so well exposed and she managed to do that. For a beginner or for a pro, this one is spot on and the composition and cropping are excellent.
This photo is far better than most of the "more experienced" wannabe photographers in UF...
 You should give her that.

           | hi,Patricia...i agree with what Paul says and also want to point out that when composing, you need to pay attention to elements that appear to be growing out of the person's head (in this image you have a two prong fork-like branch that appears to be grabbing her head..LOL..) good effort tho'...you should look at some of the better fashion shots here at UF to learn more about composing....good shootin' to ya!

           | you'll get a better quality image if you shoot ISO 100 in full sunlight like this, Patricia. 400 isn't necessary.
Stil...a nicely balanced exposure and good use of fill flash.

           | Very nice portrait. The idea of the sun at the back makes the photo more interesting, but also more difficult to take correctly. Well done,
