Michele: Good subject material here and I don't have too much more to add that has not been said by Miles. The shot is a bit overexposed. That's one issue. Fortunately, a lot of the overexposed area is on the left and the yellow sandy area over there adds nothing to the composition . . . and (in my opinion) would detract from the overall composition even if it weren't overexposed. I would crop it there. After that, you have two viable options. First, as indicated by Miles . . . you could eliminate the sky with another crop. I would think the second alternative would be NOT to eliminate the sky. While it has no 'character' due to it being just blue . . . it does add a (horizon) line which gives the composition another dimension (and a line). You mention you could go back . . . you might want to consider a whole different shot . . . closer, and from a low angle (perhaps laying down) from an oblique side to add even more dimension. Colors look good but brightness / contrast can be adjusted a tad to help the overcomp. Good eye to spot this too!

Thank You Marlyce . This is not my first posting of this shot. I keep trying different tones and sizes, but never tried just cropping the sky out Maybe this would help ... Anyway thank you for the ideas, and thoughtful critique. With much appreciation, Michele~

ThankYou for all of the ideas Miles. I did take several shots so maybe can try out these ideas with them. I can also go back to this site. I appreciate your comments and time sincerely, Michele carlsen~

Michele, I think this an interesting subject, but I agree with Miles. The sky is distracting, it would have helped if clouds would have cooperated and been in view for you---mean clouds had to hide. I don't know what view you would have seen if you had moved to the left, if the left is a 50 foot drop, I would not recommend doing that. However, you might have cropped a little off the left if you could not bring down the brightness. I do like the view of the opening to the right as it looks like something just inside and I keep trying to see what it is (maybe my gnomes are hiding in there?). It is a nice capture.

I think I would have got closer, and not kept the sky, but concentrate on the layers of colour in the cliff face. I might also have gone more to the left to look at the cave at a slight angle rather then flat on. I would also have knocked the exposure down a bit as you have over exposed the highlights a little, maybe if the early morning/late evening sun shone on the cliff you could get this with some nice warm lighting on it? Just some ideas....
