Thanks for the comment Beverly. I know the snowdrop appears to be overexposed. In truth, I overdid the contrast when I scanned it. I have to pull out the original negative, which has plenty of detail in that forward peta. As to the depth of field, I'm divided. I'd like to see it with more depth of field, but I'm not sure that I dislike the 3D effect that the limited depth of field provides. Perhaps I'll find an equally well placed blosssom this spring, so I can try it again. I'm not a studio shooter of single blooms. If it doesn't look good in its natural habitat, I don't shoot it.

Interesting composition on this, however I would like to see more depth of field, also the bloom appears to be over exposed, leaving no detail in the petals. Just my opinion.

Thank you both for your comments. Both of you have suggested that the flower is "out of focus." In truth, the forward petals and the stem are quite sharp and in focus, but the depth of field doesn't extend to the rear petals. This was an intentional effort on my part to create a 3D effect. This kind of macro effect is more common to film photography than digital. Some find it pleasing, others do not. If you'd like to see a blowup of a small section of this photo that illustrates the effect, you'll find it at http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=1288297&size=lg Again, thank you for taking the time to comment.

This flower looks like it would be really lovely if it was in focus and much sharper. The colors are nice and clean. Is it blooming now? Can you reshoot? This is worth another try.
