City - Windsor State - BERKSHIRE Country - United Kingdom
About
This shot is of the Coat of Arms and motto of the British monarch. It appears on the side of a beautiful steam engine, wonderfully restored, which is now on display at what used to be the railway station in the town of Windsor.
The reason for the title is that this beautiful piece of machinery, with its lovingly restored metalwork and paintwork, is now displayed in what looks essentially like a concrete box, surrounded by railings and signs telling people not to park their bicycles.
I think this photo reveals a little of the splendour of the origins of the engine - while at the same time, you can see some of the real world, the pointed railings and everyday life going on around the now silent machine. It's a sad end for a once powerful entity.
Thanks for your comment! The colours on the train are great - it all looks a bit incongruous, really, in that old railway station. It's a shopping centre now.
Yes, Windsor is quite a quaint old place - I like it a lot. It's got plenty of history, and of course there's a beautiful stretch of the Thames there too. It gets pretty crowded during tourist season, so I tend always to go there in winter. Although feeding the swans there at that time is a bit of a dice with death because they're always hungry in winter. ;)
Did you visit Eton too? That's a great place, some fantastic buildings there as well. :) Take care! SQirl
Hi Sqirl - nice capture - bright vived colours! Also like your 'about'. My pennies worth: I thing the lion is 'on' something - has a really glazed, far out, look in his eyes. ps - I LOVE Windsor - like to sit on the steps at the library and watch the daily school life - it's like going back to the days of Mr Chips. Have a good weekend :)
Well, I would hope that the band to which we're referring would have more than one fan on here! Sorry - more than three fans. :)
I think we have Wheel of Fortune over here too. Some guy called Nicky presents it, or at least used to, as far as I'm aware. I don't know this Pat Sajak, I'll go and see whether he has a fan site I can subscribe to! I like smart people.
The King has found his Crown. And he also seems to be the Girl with the Golden Hair. And if you think anyone other than SPam is going to have a clue what we're talking about, well... :)
Oh yes. I watch Wheel of Fortune regularly. Pat Sajak is such an incredibly handsome man. And his head is as big as a Pumpkin. He's really smart too. :)
That there "horse" is a unicorn, and his crown is around his neck. Because it'd be tricky to balance a crown on that little space between his ears, I imagine.
As regards their expressions, the horse is probably mildly annoyed because the lion has a nicer bottom, and everyone knows it. And in fact point it out regularly. ;)
So! Your little secret is out! You watch Wheel of Fortune. I'm - amazed. I would never have thought that of you. Or do you just watch it for Vanna White? :)
I love the way you got the Lion to smile. Did you get him to say "Horse"? The Horse looks mildy annoyed. Maybe it's because he has no Crown. He even looks a bit scared. Do you think he knows what's coming? They both remind me of Vanna White on Wheel of Fortune. Not that I ever watch that show. :)
