Thanks, Rafi. As it turns out, this is a public servant! The statue depicts Etienne Marcel, who was prominent in securing the principles of the republic for the populace. It is wonderful that he is depicted as a victorious warrior. ;-) In my case, I simply thjought it was another very handsome example of the public art in the streets of Paris.

Excellent P.S. work, George, indicating your looking forwards. In one of our art lessons we were taught that when a hero (who is he?) is depicted or sculptured on a horse with one or more feet in the air, it means he returned from battle victorious & alive. There must some meaning in your opting for this particular image.
