Kolkata, West Bengal USA
About: I started photography out of chance when I was playing with a prism in my childhood. I accidentally clicked shutter of my father’s camera and that turned out to be a great picture. In my high school I used a camera of Japanese local market known as HiMax that was a plain point and shoot toy.
Then during college days I got National 35 from my girlfriend and started taking up photography seriously. I shot tons of pictures in black and white primarily on Agfa films.
After I went to USA in Jan 2004 I started exploring digital. Sony V1 was my first camera and I learnt a lot with that. As digital photography was pulling me more and more into the hobby, I missed the old film days. I bought Nikon N80 and started taking pictures in slides. Arizona tour was a memorable one where I used N80 almost always.
Then I won Kodak Photo Of the Day and my picture got displayed in New York Times Square. My wife gifted me Nikon D70s. I simply loved that gift.
Then prizes kept pouring with another Kodak photo of the day, pictures getting displayed in Times Square billboard and Kodak photo of the month, when they displayed my photo for 1 whole month in their homepage. Some forums like Dpreview and Steeve also recognized my effort. Those were memorable 3 years in USA.
In Oct 2006 when I returned to India, I found my portfolio mostly filled with nature pictures. I felt I was drifting from real life and soughting pictures of some paradise land. I kept searching that paradise in my own country and found that in faces of people here. Thats when I got interested in potraits.
Now I do photography primarily because I cannot live without that. Its my passion. I like painting, painting my canvas pictures with light.
