About Does the dark vignetting and composition work?? Open to crop suggestions as I wasn't sure about this or a square crop! Or, does this just not work with it being so close at the bottom....fingers missing?
THANKS!

OK a quickie here. I like your crop it's a great stand alone! However you can square it if you were to use it with a triplyth to tell a story (two looser shots ) it's a bit bright but... not annoying by any means and the vinetting you really can't pick out unless you mention it and then it's rather slight! it really doesn't need help.... however, here's a different take of it EnJoy! Hi Janet!

Am really sorry for the late reply, but i just noticed your comment.

About the tonality of the image, you can do it with Photoshop.
Go to Hue/Saturation, or just click ctrl+U.
Then make sure to tick the Colorize option
set the Hue on 0 > zero
and the Saturation between 5-15, see which tone you prefer.

to give the contrast a lil boost, Adjust the levels (ctrl+L), give the white input level a lil bit of an increase. same for the black.

Sorry again for being late! hope this will be helpful :)

Cheers!
Zahraá

Yes, Al, I am a big fan of b&w...usually prefer it! To me these were turning out nice in color so that's why I left them, BUT I really love the tone of yours...mind sharing how you achieved it?! I really love what you did!

Hi Janet, what a sweet face and lovely eyes, I like every photo of this series, this one is maybe my favorite:) I like your close crop, but I think a "little" more space on the left side, but I am not an expert:)

Nice Sunday for you and your family,
Pia

Gypsies kept me from keeping my 7:00 pick up yesterday, Janet...I fought like a demon, but they were ruthless. Made me stay and dance the tarantella with them and swill a strange local brew. I think I had a vision quest.

Nonetheless I shall make the pick up today! Gypsies be damned......I really did like that brew tho'...really funky stuff.

The image? It's fantastic...I wouldn't change a thing on it. While the square presentation is okay, I like the wider version. Just feels better to me. And the vignette works beautifully. Very soft and unobtrusive, but definitely accentuates the subject. Beautifully done, Janet...both image and child.

An adorable girl! Yes, I like the vignette. I think the close tight crop is nice. A square one works nicely too. Very beautiful capture.

Fantastic Janet, but yes I thing the square crop works best. You zone in on those beautiful eyes straight away. Mono, Sepia or Colour, who cares, this little model looks wonderful any which way.
Well done sweetie, another winner as far as I am concerned.....very best wishes to you..Ray

Hi Janet! As for the crop, I prefer the main upload. Love this expression, it looks so natural. Good work once again!

Thank you, Mohamed...that is where I was struggling with a square crop...I like your version! I do know that you like square crops, too :0)
Didn't mean to confuse you with the title, I was trying to keep with the one word followed by an exclamation point and I really wanted suggestions on this one! Thanks for your continued kindness!

Hi Janet,
I like both your and Mohamed's crops. Each gives the image a different feel. Fingers...no problem. The vignetting...is so slight that it looks almost natural...a good thing!
Love this image...great eye focus again.

Hi Janet,
I think the dark vignetting works really well. I don't think this would be as good without it. I don't have a problem with the missing fingers, because there is enough of them missing that it looks intentional. If you had the same shot with more in the front and all of her hand in it I think that would look good too. That being said I wonder if the whole feel might be changed with more of the chair in it.
You do such an amazing job with eyes! Once again these are just wonderful!
Kathy
I just read the rest of the comments, and Mohammed's crop gives it a whole new feel. His works, too, but I'm not sure if it works better. For some reason it becomes way more intense (although maybe that's just because of the size) and her eyes seem to drill right through me. Is this your daughter?

the vignetting works well -- pops her face even more. crisp, clear, clean, commercial.

David Hofmann   {K:22223} 10/27/2005
she is so adorable! I just love her eyes.

The composition works fine for me, I wouldn't change a thing. I didn't notice the slight vignetting but since you mentioned it, yes it work, it directs your attention even more towards her face. I'm not missing anything here (fingers or anything). Its a great portrait.

I'm not a huge fan of very tight crops. Sure you can always crop a portrait down to the face, but to me it feels like "reducing the presonality". I rather show more and use other things to get the viewer's attention to the important area (DoF, bright/dark, ...).

Dear Janet.. i was gonna comment on the strange unfitting title, but after reading ur about i knew y :)
first, ur work is so special in a way making me able to recognize it by the thumbnail itself.
second, the helping thing..i feel ok with the current cropping, the fingers dont bother me at all. if they r shown too they will be blurred, so they will be fine, but the ratio of the frame wont be the usual ratio for portrait, and i dont think square cropping fits portraits, i guess it would be unfair.
so as i write , i feel more ok about this photo the way it is.
best regards.

Mohamed Banna Mohamed Banna   {K:34237} 10/27/2005
dear Janet
sure you are one of the greatest kids and babies photographer here
and this kind need a HEART to shot

anyway
i'm with the square cropping you know why ??!!

it gives some imagination to discover the rest
i mean his/her left hand rested to the chair and by the sauare cropping you can imagin the rest

also it gives more space for this (cute look )

at first i read help and i think that the baby needs help and this is in her'his look is clear

so leave it or crop it
but just keep the title

WELL DONE
