About A view east, from a cheviot hill, amongst the heather

This photo, literally, nearly killed me, as I had a severe blood sugar drop comming down from this summit! Also nearly stood on a venomous addder, hiding in the bracken!

Hope it was worth it (the walk was).

Sorry to hear about your adventures in taking this photo, Colin!!!
What a beautiful scene you captured, though! Great shot.
Kind regards, Chris

Great capture Colin - outstanding beauty (aside from the adder !!!).

I disturbed an adders nest once by accidentaly putting a fishing rod rest through the earth and into one - I found out I could run very quickly with two rods, a tackle box, seat and packed lunch !

Best wishes,
Steve

Colin, this is a truly marvellous view. Sorry to hear of your sugar crash and the near miss with the adder. Well, no, I'm GLAD about the near miss with the adder--that it was a MISS! Hope you're better now. Kim's suggestion about ND filters is good. Hear him! But if you buy PaintShopPro (not nearly as expensive or hard to learn as PhotoShop), there are a few things you can do to tone down that rather bright sky and distant scenery. YOu would be amazed at the difference a bit of tweaking can make...

Thanks Becky. This was taken at 4pm, on a bright, cloudy day. I don't have any filters yet, to de-mist the bright horizon. I just wanted the main landscape, perfectly exposed. I'll bear in mind the boots, though!

Many thanks
Colin

Being cooped up all week, this photo really makes me want to go for a walk . . . although I don't know if there's any place around here that has such a spectacular vista!

Definitely worth it! There's so much wonderful colour here . . . was this taken in early morning or late afternoon light, by any chance? I wish the horizon wasn't overexposed, but the day looks slightly hazy and I know how difficult it makes long distance landscape shooting. (Although I second Kim's suggestion of a neutral density filter . . . even a polarizer may help a little). Still, there's enough colour, detail and texture in the foreground to engage the eye. And the gate is great . . . it's like it just leads you into nowhere . . . or the fabulous, scenic beyond.

Regarding the walking about with poisonous snakes . . . I have three words for you: steel tipped boots. :)

Take it easy, Colin! We don't want you hurting yourself to get these amazing views!
I love the exposure in the foreground but wish the the sky was equally as stunning. A neutral density graduated filter would do just that. You can even hold them in front of the lens of your powershot!
Thanks for sharing the views... now watch where you're stepping! *grin*
