I do what ever it takes to create images to paint from that being my profession and I am not to worried about how I get the photo to the place where it works for me. Just the same it is easier to just have a great image and not spend a lot of time fooling with it.

My Hat's off to you Tim...great shot! The composition is spot on and the scene itself is breathtaking. I actually like the the contrast of the shot because that is what it looks like when you're out in that kind of wilderness with that bright sun shining down. I go back and forth conceptually on manipulating things in PS...the conclusion I came up with is two categories...those in which you try to present the closest approximation of what you see and the other is an idealic composition based upon what you see; both are absolutely art. So to bottom line it...love your shot!

Hi Hugo, I am painting this one at this very moment. And yes originally the shadows are not as dark and i contrasted the foreground to inhanse the drama. In the painting i will be adding subtle details in the cool color range to fill it in a bit with some visiual information for the viewer.
Thank you for the critique!
Always good to hear from you

Absolutely breath taking, Tim.

having said that, I wouldn't be me if I refrained from nitpicking, (that's what it is, nothing more...;)

I find the contrast in the foreground a bit high, creating a huge transition between the shadows and the sunlit parts. It also does block out the details in the dark parts. I guess this is something that is induced by your eye as a painter, where the subtleties and details depends on the width of your brush. Partially, I think that's not quite necessary with a photographic reproduction of such a magnificent scene, but on the other hand, it does make up for the loss of the other senses, such as smell, feel and sound.

Apart from the contrast, it might also have somehting to do with digital sharpening, which can lead to over exaggerated details. Again, an ambiguous thing, and purely subjective. Wouldn't have elaborated nor commented this much if your shots didn't appeal to me.

Amazing view, and a superb composition, framing the mountain ridge by the upgrowth in the foreground. It guides the eye very well over all aspects, centering on the peak across the lake. I can definately see this on canvas....

Cheers,

Hugo

Sometimes it seems easy to shot beautiful photos with wonderful landscapes like this but without passion and good tecnique the results are always disappointing. Of course this is not your case your talent clear! Ciao Rossano
