About Here are the pair of fawns I discovered in a boggy area at the end of May. They were just born. I tell the story of it in the image 'Newborn'. The fawn to the upper left (pictured in 'Newborn') seemed pretty calm about my being there. The one here in front was terrified. You can see it in his eyes. I say his, because it is my experience that the bucks are much more skittish and fearful of humans than the does. You can see by the little guys nose the bright red blood on the grass. It is my understanding that fawns can usually stand within an hour of being born, so these are very new to the world. It was just a tremendous, a very emotional time for me. I just started praying and thanking God. I was almost weeping while I was there. It really touched my heart seeing these beauties so soon after their arrival into the world. It was just an incredibly special time. . . I am thankful that I had a camera along so that I can share it with you.

I shouldn't have said anything. I wasn't thinking. The maternal instinct is a powerful force; of course she came back!

Hi Joan,

I very much worried about that. It would weighed very heavily on my mind to have had anything happen to these little guys because of me. I went back the next day and there was no evidence of mama or babies in the bog, so I think (or maybe I just hope) that they were OK.

Beautiful shot! I hope the mother returned soon after the photo was taken. Brand new, what a rare sight!
