Oops.....I forgot to enhance the color before I uploaded the picture! I also have many more rodeo pics. to add, so be sure to come back and check them out.
Superbly caught, Holly. I LOVE the little "mutton busters"!
Only critique I could offer is that his hat is a bit over exposed. You could probably do a little photo shop with the dodge/burn tool to tone it down some. But..this is a minor critique. It's a great shot.
I'm sorry I didn't get back to you before your rodeo. I didn't see the comments in my portfolio until today. We've had a new addition around our house and it's just been a tad bit hectic!!!
Looks like you got some great shots, though!
For the future...and it's only my suggestions, nothing more..
Zoom lenses make you more flexible. Fast lenses make you even MORE flexible.
Your choice of film is perfect. Fairly versatile speed and a brand known for "wow" colors.
Shutter speed, shutter speed and then...shutter speed. Get as fast as you can for that stop action stuff but don't be afraid to drop it down a bit, too. If you set your shutter speed about 2 stops below what your meter recommends you'll see some pretty dramatic blurring. Of course, you'll still need to adjust your aperature so you don't wind up dark. It can be tricky, especially if you're at an indoor rodeo. However, the good thing about rodeo is that flash is always an option! The Hunter/Jumper and Dressage crowd get really antsy when you start popping flashes around their horses...guess they don't want to wind up with a ride like the ones in your portfolio!
Well, again...sorry I got back to you late. Take care and have fun!
