About Subject background: When I stayed at the harbour, I saw this massive Japanese cruise ship. So I loaded my new tele and made some shots from the moving ship. I loved that differences in the floors, the way the people took notice of their environment - some enthusiastic, come hiding, with the king on the top. This image looks so weird flat to me... ;-) The title refers to "People in Spirals"

PS concept: Well, again stitching time... the final image consists of four different horizontal shots.

Thilo,

I find sometimes a lot of the more subtle images will sometimes get passed over, if they don't stand out spectacularly in the thumbnails. This shot does not at first stand out, but it reminds me of some of the old Life Magazine Journalism shots. It is the kind of photo that shows a little piece of humanity. (or lack of humanity)
Or maybe I'm reading too much into it ;)

Hi Andre,

thanks for the motivating words, my friend. To be honest, I like this picture personally very much.

Hi Baki,

Actually, the ship is just white. No textures. =)

Thx, Thilo

Hi Thilo,
I am surprised at how few views this one has. I think it is a nice little statement. It shows how we are not so far removed from the ants. The title says it all.
I think it is a much better photo journal type photo than a lot of people realize.

Hi John,

I don't know the old architecture ;-)

So yes: I stayed there and really enjoyed the city. For photographers, this is so much fun. I might upload some different stuff from the harbour soon.

thx for commenting,

Thilo

Wow, that is a nice stitch-up job. I wasn't expecting this to require stitching, but well done anyway.

Good comment on the containerization of the shipping industry. Even people are now carried in their own containers :)

Hi Thilo,

So you stayed in Amsterdam! , nice new architecture overthere don't you think? One of my favorite places the harbour.

This excellent composition works very well in B&W.

Hi Jeanette,

my first title idea was "people in cages", so I think we are on the same planet =)

I like your title which makes me think and see the shot differently then i would with another title. Boxes, imagine apartments could also be small boxes - cells - where people live and then we in Sweden have such an area to use.... Great capture Thilo!
