Alastair,
I don't think we are too far away from a similar opinion.
If I had all options open to me, but only had this area of landscape and lighting to work with I think I would have liked to be on a boat a few metres from that big rock and make that the focus of attention with the granduer of the landscape behind it.
I acknowledge that my own cropping didn't give the image that focus it needed, more that I sought to make Marie think about where the focus of attention should be and in this I don't think we disagree.
But it would be a rather boring place if we all agreed wouldn't it!

I have to disagree with you Neil... Almost all the great Landscape photographers such as Joe Cornish include foreground objects as a point of interest for the eye to focus on. On UF if you look at Tim Schumm who I feel has fantastic images you can see exactly the same philosophy of composition. I think what this image needs more than cropping to remove the rocks in the foreground is to have been shot with a little more foreground in the first place. The crop you have made in my view removes any focal point of interest as the rock on the end of the promontory is too far away to hold or attact the eye. I respect your opinion and appreciate you are trying to help Marie but I think she has done a very good job of the image taken. As I said, its a shame more of the foreground wasn't included in the original image.

Marie,
I agree the lighting in this one is most pleasant.
However, I hope you don't mind me once again offering some suggestions...
When you have a scene like this trying to get the most out of it to make it more attractive to everyone else (who were not actually there), can be a bit of a challenge.
Because there are not specific subjects like an animal or person or building to concentrate on, my vote would be to go for that big rock on the end of the piece sticking out in the water.
I'd have composed it something like in the attachment below, but even then I'm not sure if it quite conveys the grandeur of the location as well as be appealing to the eye.

Great view, you'll never know how it's going to look up there, until you actually do the climbing.... sometimes it can be quite disappointing, but I say this time it was worth the effort!!! Good colors and composition with some of the rocks in the foreground (adds depth)... well done!!
