About Close-up of an ancient - one of many - dead camelthorn tree in the deadvlei, next to Sossusvlei in southern Namibia. The shifting dunes have closed up what many eons ago used to be a riverbed. It is said that the camelthorn takes 500 years to reach maturity and 500 hunderd years to disintegrate once dead, mainly due to the dry climate of the Namib desert

Excellent Tjaart! Rich satrurated colours and great detail and composition. I like the section of colour in the images caused by the lines of the tree stem, roots and the dunes. If there is such beauty in death - how much more in life. Great work.

I'm amazed no one has commented!
This is cracking... love the colour contrasts of the dead wood against the sand, the red sands of the background against the sky and the progression of trees from foreground to background. Superb!
