I can't completely disagree. This is my first composition of this type. In retrospect I thought putting the green plant in the foreground may have been a good idea. Your idea would have been a good one as well. I wish that I would have tried more shots of this nature on this particular trip.
Thanks a ton for the complete, thourogh and constructive critique of my most recent posts. Very much appreceiated!

Nice. I like the "long" view you have here. I think the composition could be improved a bit by first including a complete "pealing" section right at the bottom of the frame to anchor the image (the section that is cut in the lower right looks like it would be great), and second by readjusting the background so that the hills don't end near the edge (either have a continuous ridge or move it so it ends somewhere between 1/2 and 1/4 of the frame).

Bad land, very bad! Crunchy! I like the way it is. Actually, I am into this kind of vision. Everything is right here, imho. The depth is here. The dried mud suggestion is of entirely different set. It could be worth it, though..

P.J. Thanks but I cannot agree.
The image, is more important than the title. It would have zero composition without the rock formations, The whole idea of the composition was to show scence of scale. The cracked clay is just interesting foreground. Be my guest, copy it and crop out the formations. It will loose all depth and be less intersting.

cool image of badlands pat.. that place is such a neat NP... probably one of my fav's to photograph while on my trip across the US, wonderful forground floor, i like the way the mud is pealing up, you can just feel that with every step it fades away into dust and falls to the ground.
