About These street kids I came accross with who were playing with their kites are not just ordinary kids, they're kids with BIG dreams. In this image, dreams a represented by two kites, one on the ground and one on the sky. Hold on tight to your dreams and you'll fly high like the kite on the sky, or else you'll end up broken hearted, you'll end up falling. Just like the kite on the ground.

I really like this image. It has several pieces to make up a story. The kite in the sky and the one on the ground, very symbolic of dreams, and the surrounding telephone poles etc... show where the child is from, it's excellent!

It looks to me that you have a good timing system in you. You were able to capture the kite in that stance for the audience to see the real beauty of the image. It is candid and at the same time, "somewhat" staged. All in all,its a beautiful picture of a child's simple pleasures. I admire your talent and like you, Im also a neophyte. You inspire me. Keep it up!

Larry, I really like this one and it's nice to see you shooting with a conceptual purpose also. Lots of emotion and thought here, and you present it well.

like the balance of the fallen kite and the kite that flies. sense of success. poetic. There is no reason why dreams can't be rebuilt into something different, despite the failure of that first kite. Dreams can be replaced, hope can't.

That is awesome. I love what you did to make the picture stand out and the toning of the picture. How did you achieve that?

Yes, I see why you included the kite on the ground. However, it's important when doing photography not to let the metaphors overcome the image. After all, image is our chosen tool of expression as photographers! Was it Cappa who urged photographers to simplify as a sure way to strengthen an image? Anyway, I enjoyed this image very much and hope to see more soon. Keep shooting!

Hi Grant,
First of all I'd love to thank you for dropping by and leaving such a wonderful and helpful comment on this image. Im so happy that you really did see and understand the message I am trying to show here. And you did explained it very well. The Bridge was there and have no choice but include it, but as i compose it I realized that it would look fine on the image. The kite on the ground on the other hand was intentionally included, i thought that might represent those dreams that have not been achieved, or dreams that fell apart... Sometimes it is true that we cannot control our destiny. And so our dreams might fall if we don't hold on tight to it. Like the boy holding his kite tight trying to keep it high and not to fall.

Anyway, thanks again, Grant! Your comments and suggestions are always my inspirations! It's a BIG help!!!

rgrds,
Larry

What a charmingly surrealistic photograph! The kite works very well as a metaphor for a child's dreams. The string shows up well and serves as the link between the child and his dreams. The vignetting adds a nice touch, dreamlike and surreal, as does the bridge, which acts as another dreamlike metaphor. Did you plan that or did it just happen? On the down side -- The kite on the ground is distracting as are the telephone poles and lines, but you can't have it all your way when you're shooting in the street, can you? All in all this is a lovely image. I see from your bio that you're a relative newcomer to photography. Keep it up, you're doing a great job.
