With PS you can adjust the image levels. This way you can "darken" the shadows in the bottom. Don't know if is allowed to post links..... well lets try.... have a look here for a simple tutorial on how to use levels (http://www.earthboundlight.com/phototips/photoshop-levels-1-2-3.html?source=rss).
