Hello Huw Ge,
I believe the aperture on this was 9.5. With macro shots, you really have to stop down the lens to get any amount of DOF.
Thanks for the comment! chris

Thanks Barbara for the comments. As for the dust, I am almost positive that is on the flower. My sensor does have some dust on it, but it never shows up as being sharp, since it is so close to the lens.
Thanks for the comments about sharpening. I am always unsure about how much to sharpen. I plan to make some big prints with this and don't want them to end up too grainy. Have you had that problem?
Thanks again! chris

Beautiful shot, Christopher. The color and composure are just perfect. One of the best florals I've seen.

Nice shot Christopher - do you know what the depth of field was here? I am experimenting at the moment and looking to see what is working for others in the usefilm community
Thanks Huw

The composition, lighting and colors are great!!! The DOF is very good, and also the focus.
But DSLRs have 2 problems: softness of the focus, that's never too sharper how we would like it to be; and the sensor, that allways need be cleaned before use...
I would suggest you to clean the sensor of your 10D, 'cause the dirt is visible on your picture (or it's the flower?), and use the "Unsharp Mask" (Photoshop --> Filter --> Sharp --> Unsharp Mask) to bring to your subject all the sharpness it needs.
It's a great picture, congrats!
(If you don't mind, here is the suggest of the Unsharp Mask)
Regards, Barbara.
