Hugo, yes, I only have the HP Photosmart 850 - a very limited 4 megapixel camera with no manual control so I really have to jump through hoops and come up with creative ways to get good quality and to also do studio type shots. Also at 4 Megapixel, there is not much room to crop so I have to be really careful with composition - but actually that part is not bad thing, it prevents me from being lazy and depending on huge ammounts of megapixel to "fix" a photo.

Hi Jeff,
I hadn't seen this one, yet, and I agree, Neat Image creates a silky look over the image. Although I think the highlights in her hair come out better in colour, I think the B&W version is stronger, also because of that noise. Just curious; did you use the HP in all your shots?
Cheers,
Hugo

Great lighting, nice portrait of Yulia. By the way, I downloaded Neat Image, what a major difference that program makes! Thanks Jeff.

Carol, digital noise really does bother me and I am noticing it more in my photos lately so I think that my sensor is getting noisier. In this case, I overdid the noise reduction to eliminate noise from the shadows.
That being said, you are abosolutely right, the natural beauty comming through is much more important than some additional noise, thank you so much for reminding me what is really important, I really do appreciate all you comments and suggestions, they do mean a lot to me and I WILL keep it in mind in the future. Love you, Jeff

Jeff, I am very familiar with Neat Image..I used it on Nicoles image to reduce such a problem with digital noise.. I personally like your before better because of the subject..she is so beautiful and that raw beauty is more important a quality in a photo than a little noise..! ps your before looks fine to me!!

Carol, Thank you. Actually, what you see on the skin is the result of Neat Image. The original (see attachment) had TOO much digital noise - very frustrating, need a better camera. Love you too, Jeff

I love the soft lighting, and the fact her left eye is barely visible, instead of totally shadowed. Beautiful highlights in the hair, too.

wow, beautiful! The mischevious gleam in the eye, and those shiny lips are wonderful, Jeff. Soft light at a sharp angle works well when you're this close up. NICE!!

Thanks Alex. The model I was going to use (pictured here) canceled at the last minute so I have to do something in Photoshop - can't get another model in short notice - at least for free. Won't be as good as yours or Pandora's but it's fun anyway. It is going to be a test of my photoshop skills.
