About We were delighted to find our old friends, the Sandhill Cranes, stopping off for a breather on their way south. They came in at sunset, sixteen of them.

Daniel: I have not found that the 1.4x TC degrades the image in any significant way. It's Canon's TC and retains autofocus with the 1D Mark II using the center focus spot only. It will not retain autofocus on your camera. I am, in fact, borrowing a 2x TC and a 500mm lens from Canon next week and I will let you know how that works. Unfortunately, the 2x will eliminate autofocus, even for the 1D Mark II, using the 100-400mm lens but not the 500. I will probably experiment with the 100-400 and 2x TC on manual focus despite that drawback. I used the 100-400 w/1.4x extensively on my D60 with manual focus only and had some success, particularly with the hummingbird photos. It's an excellent lens as you well know.

Wonderful Image Fred You have made the most out of this fine wildlife scape.. Does the 1.4 TC retain the functions of this lens which I also have?
