Many thanks for your response, the effect you achieved here is excellent and its very similiar to those you can achieve with the cokin system.you can see one example in my porfolio "sky on Fire"

I did not use any filter on this picture. It was a cloudy, somewhat misty night. The background light is coming from the other side of the harbor from the eastern europe ferry-terminal. The light was reflected by the deep clouds.
Since i am relatively new to photography, I had to google what a cokin filter is. Sounds interesting.

Stunning tones and great lighting..personally I find the angled lines of the rigging quite harmonious (but then, I've spent quite a lot of time around boats and ships, and it is a confusing jumble of ropes when you first see it).

Beautiful exposure. The composition of this photo is quite nice, although the angled lines are a little disorienting. I'm not sure why that is. Very fun image.
