Climbing this salt-eroded rock at the coast of Corsica was not as easy as it looks, and so is determining what makes me think this picture is not as it should be. Is it the light, the composition, or ...?

If you look at the highlights and the shadows, both show some details. This means an excellent exposure setting!
I think it is more the composition. You have to points of interest: Gerrit and the very nice Corsican landscape.
Maybe if you moved closer to the climber and more to the left, you could crop more of the rock and still show the color of the rock and the see. If I look at Gerrits left hand I think is next move will be with his face and left leg pointing to the left pressure on the right foot (and your camera if shoot from the left). Just a thought?.
