Bill - I've never been pleased with flatbed scanners. Since I shoot both film and digital, I scan my film with a Canon 4000 machine. I don't know (or understand) all the little technical specs, but it sure does a great job on both negatives and transparencies. If you have a local friend who has a film scanner, why not give it a try?

George .....I have just purchased a h/p scanjet 3970 ...flat bed scanner ... box says:2400 dpi optical resolution . and 48 bit color.. "for impressive photo quality and crisp text" .. YEA..RIGHT. .......... I know it's another generation from the scanner to my puter screen .. but holy cripes .....should I have to go into p/s to correct a simple transfere! .. based on the mfg. claim.."impressive photo quality". But .. i'm willing to accept that it is me.

~~~~~~~~~ Regards .... Bill
I really would like to see the original transparency. Your series on sailing vessels is just fantastic. What kind of a scanner are you using?
I haven't had much success with scanning slides. Have had it done on expensive scanners but still won't match digital for quality. Don.
Excellent Bill,
It is a shame you lost some quality in the scan, but the composition is incredible... One can feel the movement of the boat....
Cheers,
Maria
Nice one Bill, like how you can only see the people slightly thru the transparent portion of the sail...
