It is relatively easy to grasp the perspective of size with this ship when alongside a pier. This is quite a bit different at sea. When operating in the vicinity of this ship at sea, one cannot help but be awed by its presence and size.

Nice capture, Bill. The Iowa class battleships are an awesome example of US naval firepower. Nothing else equaled them, anywhere!! Just there presence of the coast made the enemy shake in their boots. BTW, I was aboard the NJ when it was in port in San Francisco in 1983.
