About Made in Germany, "At the races". I think it has both an abstract feel to it, and a sense of motion.
I didn't think the shot would turn out this nice, but I did try to get this kind of effect.
Critique well appreciated!
Grz,
Eric

Actual data: 1/60-f8, ISO 400

I've put it in for the abstracts project. A bit off topic, but it's the closest I could find.

Great shot, Nice perspective, the motion blur makes this a really nice shot, makes me a little dizzy though :)

Hi Eric, Intriguing shot. Both the abstractism and the sense of motion are there, and quite strongly so.

I also see what you are trying to achieve with this image, but the fact that not a single point in this photo is sharp, (It looks like it is in focus, though) makes the eye wander off, away from the image, quite easily. I think it needs a specific point of of interest to hold the viewers attention. And in this case, If there's such a subject, it would be the red stripe on the car behind the jockey... Still, I think the subject is quite recognisable.

Here's what you could do to create both the tension as well as the dynamism. Accept a little noise, and go for the 1600 ASA setting. That would increase the shutterspeed to approx 1/125'. Use the manual focus, and pre-focus it on the spot where you want to expose. Catch the subject in the viewfinder well in advance, and pull the camera along with it. Expose the shot (at the same distance you prefocussed on) and keep the camera moving. It's just like shooting (clay) pigeons, don't stop the swing once you pulled the trigger, the only difference being that you don't need to keep ahead of your target...;o)

A bit of motion blur would be nice, so you can also use the current setting, and use a fill flash on the rear curtain. Don't think the horse lovers would recommend that, and you'll need to be pretty close to make sure the flash has any effect.

I posted a similar motion shot last saturday. In comparison to this shot, I like to think that the briefcase in that one, as well as the pleat in the mans pants is just about enough to hold the attention. (although not everybody agrees with me on this) I wonder what you think...

Hey! Congrats on the BIP...I'll reply to your email later, but in general, I'd say "YES!" great, Thanks!

Cheers,

Hugo
