A crewman is checking the undercarriage of one the most famous airplane fighters of World War II, a North American P-51 Mustang. The black and white stripping were painted on the wings and fuselage for easy identication during D-Day invasion on France, 6 June 1944.
Brendon, overall, I think this is an excellent image ... especially considering the sun being almost straight overhead. If I am not mistaken, there is also a P-47 Thunderbolt to the right, behind the P-51. On the personal side, I grew up building this particular model - the P-51 - 5 times. I had my own flight group. A few years later I went on to join the Air Force - Strategic Air Command. I am glad you posted this. It brings back memories. Regards, Bill. Again, an excellent image.
