About I took this photo last week at the Rio-Antirrio strait, from one of the ferry-boats that serve the strait crossing.
Progress is being made in the building of a fully suspended bridge connecting southern Greece, at Rio near Patras, Greece's third largest city with northwestern Greece, at Antirrio. The Rio-Antirrio bridge, once complete by 2004, will have broken four global records for:
** The longest suspended deck (2,252 metres) of any cable-stayed bridge in the world, outdoing the Golden Gate suspension bridge (1,966m).
** The bridge with the deepest foundations, that is, 45-65m below the sea.
** Its ability to withstand earthquakes beyond 7 Richter.
** The widest deck size in the world at 27.2m.

Wow, Kostas, not only a great photograph but what interesting details you spell out in the 4 global records. Very dramatic sky in this composition and the silhouetting of the bridge works in to that drama. The huge seaside moutain in the background just adds to this beauty. The boat beyond the bridge really adds a depth to the phtograph as well. The boat also equalizes the photograph in my opinion, to where you need not see the left piering of the bridge in order to balance.

Well done.

Dave

Gee Wiz, Thats incredible. I can't even fathom about anything that huge for a bridge. This is def. eye candy. Congrats...

This is absolutely fabulous, Kostas. i really mean it. i think the boat silhouette shows just how massive this bridge is going to be. That Greek sky is like nothing I've ever seen in Columbus, Ohio. My gosh. The color is subtle but so strong and stands on it's own. The counterbalance of the bridge in progress is very smart too! I'm thrilled to see you posting! Weeeeee!

great composition and colors! i love the high contrast as well. i think the shot may be better if there were no boat, but what can you do about that?? looks like it will be a great bridge! i like the title as well. nice one kostas.

Gorgeous sky. I like the way that the geometric shapes of the bridge are thrown into silhouette against the softer more natural shapes formed by the clouds. I also think the decision to leave the photo unbalanced by not including equal amounts of each bridge span adds a sense of dynamism to the scene that keeps the viewer's interest. An excellent photo.
