About I'm beginning to think I should only use Velvia on days of cloud and/or in conditions of low contrast. There should be more detail in the shadows (and there is a bit more on the slide), but oh well. Hopefully they don't make the photo too heavy in the bottom right corner. What do you think?

Thanks for the comment and the suggestion, Kostas. I can't believe I never thought about getting a closeup of this building. It's an intriguing thought that I'll definitely try!

it would have been great to be there and witness this reflection on the building,Becky! the sunset sky alone would make a rather dull image compared to this one,in my opinion - just put your hand over the building and look at the image again... the wide angle view is wonderful, but another interesting alternative would be to walk closer / zoom tighter and fill your frame with the window reflections - it would result in some great abstracts,me thinks...
bye,
kostas

Thanks for your comment on my picture from the French Beach at Vancouver-iland. You make a lot of grat pictures. I like the most of them, becous they are somthing different to al the others. Very nice colour here. I like the effect that you can see the sunlight in the windows.

Regards, Sven

Hi Becky, glad you liked my attempt. I just used perspective alignement and stretched the top of the photo till the apartment Block was straight. Sorry my PSE is german so i don't know the exact command in English. I'm sure you have it on yours (that is if you use PS) Cheers neil

Interesting streamers in the sky and a beautiful sunset, but what makes me like this are the reflections in the windows. A perspective correction in PSP8 would fix the lean, but appararently the same tools are available in PS too :-)

Cool Neil - I likes it! However did you manage to do that without affecting the horizon? Did you just tilt a portion of the photo?

Thanks for taking the time to respond. To answer your question - it was the end of a day, around 6 pm.

Hi Becky, I like this. It looks like the start of another nice day, or is it the end?
I took the liberty of correcting the lean which has been mentioned (i used PS). Just wanted to see if i could do it. I'm sure the problem can only be corrected digitally or you have to go and use a "tilt and shift" lens and they are very expensive. In PS it's easy. What do you think? Best Wishes from Switzerland, Neil

Dirck - the lean of the building really bothers me too, but I really don't know how to solve it without tilting the horizon. I've taken lots of photos of this apartment on many different occasions and the tilt is always there. I'm not sure if its the angle I'm taking the photo at or if the building really is leaning! Thanks as always for your comment. :)

But the Velvia gave you some gorgeous colors in the sky and reflected on the building! I like how the glass brings a punch of the gold into the dark part of the frame. The sunset alone would definitely be pretty, but I think the building adds an interesting incongruity (sp?) to the scene, with it's rigid rectangles contrasting with the gentle softness of the other elements, and the way it appears to have just been plopped down in the middle of the wilderness! The way the structure is leaning toward the water is a little disconcerting (especially the rightmost vertical) - that doesn't always bother me in a wide angle shot, but maybe it's more noticeable here because it's the only noticeable distortion. Overall, a beautiful shot!

Becky, I feel the same as you with Velvia...looks so simple when someone else does a perfect exposure shot doesn't it :) My excuse is slides don't transfer well to print!
I fiddled with your image again - found only a drop more detail (if that!) in the silhouette but retrived more colour to the brilliantly rich sunset sky and sea. The sky and seacape is so lovely that I think they hold their own without the building, or maybe lose the side of the building?
