About
I would like to had this shot without the clutter, ie, the flags and the souvenir table. Since I am into journalism shooting, this gives information. Warbirds are very expensive to maintain. The pilots and crew depends on donations and souvenir sells to keep these planes flying.
People seem to either love warbirds or ignore them; I happen to be in the "love" camp.
These seem to be difficult to shoot, for whatever reason, and I think you handled this very well, considering the circumstances. They do depend on donations to keep flying, and you do a good job of telling the story.
Couple of suggestions from my own experience with these planes: use a warming filter or warming polarizer (they really do turn blue); shoot lots of detail shots in addition to trying to get the whole plane in; and try to get shots of the whole plane when they give rides and the plane is taxiing and taking off/landing.
If you can slow the shot enough, you can show the blur of the propellers; I've wasted a lot of film trying, but the few shots that came out were worth it. :)
For story shots, it's always touching to me how many veterans who were young men when they flew in these come out to see them - even in wheelchairs. It's almost like a love affair. They're proud to tell about their experiences and usually generous about allowing you to take their picture with her. So maybe after you get the straight "plane only" shot, you would want to come in closer and show their faces with the plane as backdrop, making a feature of a liability. :)
Anyway, I'm rambling. Great shot, thanks for sharing.
