Super shot Bertram, happy kids and water a great composition. I might have increased the contrast a tiny bit just to put ever more sparkle in the water but its a really nice picture.
A sad reflection of life in the UK is that if you had taken a picture like this of kids here in Britain, you would have had a visit from the Police. Parents here are VERY touchy about their children being photographed. Visitors BE WARNED - NEVER take pictures near Schools!

Well, Bertram, you already know what I think of this one! But I'll say it again anyway--really great spontaneous shot with the artfulness and technique well hidden but doing a good job. And if you think of PhotoShop as your "darkroom" these suggestions are no more than you would do by hand... IF you had a real chemical darkroom. Except that it would take much longer and be more difficult and you'd waste time, chemicals and paper getting it right. Anyway, well within the realm of the permissible even for diehard realists like you and me.

I like the basic composition, lighting, contrast, and your use of the lead-in lines. If you use PS or another image editor perhaps you could airbrush-clone to darken slightly the hot spots at top, as these are distracting. Also, darkening the midtones via color curves will help restore the highlights and improve contrast.
