Well done, fresh portrait and very original idea. IMHO, more sharpness and a wider tonal range on the boy's face would help as it seems a little bit washed if compared with the brilliant frame. About selective diffusing, I've accomplished it with PS making, at first, a circular gradient mask with the most masked part focused on the face, then I've applied Filters - Distort -> Diffuse Glow. This is wonderful. I really like it. Nice square format. I love the child peeking out - you caught this at the perfect moment. I think I would prefer it cropped down to the square with the black frame. Not crazy about the grey foil - it is a bit overbearing in my opinion; but the image itself is wonderful. Great job. Works well in square format ( though you loose a little of the effectiveness of the format because the framing is rectangle.
