Bill, it was a simple matter to make my cropping suggestion, but considerably more diffuclt to "walk the talk." IMO cropping is by far the most challenging (and most important) out-of-camera decision. In this case I never did get exactly what I had hoped for -- I couldn't improve the balance without excluding a desirable element (i.e., the river), and vice-versa. I consider the tree essential. Anyway, attached is my best attempt; I'd be interested in how others might approach it. BTW, I also adjusted levels slightly, but left colors alone.

Gee Larry, I would've photoshopped the colors if I knew how but as everybody knows I am a moron with a computer. So, I probably woulda if I coulda but I couldn't. Good suggestion on the crop though Larry, thanks. I kept making crops but never thought of turning the photo into a square format. Wow first good suggestion in two years of posting. Terrific. Now could you do me a big favor and post that for me???

Bill, thanks for not "fixing" this by pumping it full of color steroids in PS (of course maybe you already did, and it was REALLY flat to begin with). I think I might have cropped about a third off the left side. Anyway, this is an interesting peek into another worlds.

Hi Kim, it IS very flat light. Matter of fact I don't like to shoot much in China because (unless you are on the Tibetan plateau or in the desert) the light is always so darned flat. Can't be helped. Even my Contax G lenses can't work miracles in light like this. Anyway thanks for the comment. I would like to say that maybe I should have waited for a nicer day but then I would still be there and it's the rainy season now.

An interesting scene, but it's really flat looking. Just doesn't jump off the page and make me want to look deeper. Could be because the scene is so wide when what I really want to look at is the farmer and his ox, or just the lack of colours to make it stand out.
It's such a different culture from where I am that I think I want to see what it is that they are doing... but I am a fan of getting up close... so that's just me! *grin* Love your work in that fact that it can show me things that I probably won't get a chance to ever see with my own eyes!
