About In baseball, if a ball is hit foul (out of play) the fan who catches the ball may keep it as a souvenir. I took this shot as the foul ball came streaking down a few rows in front of us. We did not get the ball....

There was a time back in the day when you had to throw the ball back. Then, some smart owners realized the goodwill it made to let the fans have the ball. There was an owner who actually had ushers run around with mock contracts to "sign up" a fan if they made a good catch on a foul ball. Today, the players are encouraged to toss a ball into the stands after the last out is made in an inning. It is kind'a nice. Except last week when a Cub player thought there were 3 outs and there were really only 2... he caught a ball and tossed it into the stands... the other team scored a run and 2 baserunners were allowed to advance becaue the ball was thrown out of play bfore three outs... the guy was an idiot....
