There's always a different viewpoint and I think that's one of the wonderful things about art and photography... we all see things differently...I think you have captured the spirit of the guy wonderfully and have given the image a timelss quality....the lamp I would never have left in but the more I look at it it's a competing focal point... it really makes the image unique....something very hard to do today...well done Roger..

Kept the lamp in to date it? I guess the light modernizes it, the shirt is pure 72.

so yeah.. thats why I left the lamp in.. to date the image.. forgot to say too that we have four of Charlies works in the Muswellbrook Shire Art Collection.. thanks to the foresight of Max Watters (Franks little brother) who bought them for his collection

yeah I understand the light but it was one of those huge round rice paper lampshadey kind of things so popular in the 70's this shot was taken in 1980, when I was photographing the artists, administrators, curators, installations etc of the Upper Hunter Environmental Exhibition curated by Frank Watters of Watters gallery in Sydney. I was on an Australia Council Grant for four months all shot as colour slides with my trusty old Minolta SRT 101 (not the Canon as stated.. forgot to change that!) So Charlie was one of the Scone artists who contributed to the Scone showing of the exhibition… The show was on in Singleton Muswellbrook Denman and Scone as part of a thrust to invoke environmental awareness around the increase in coal mining that’s was about to burst on the scene. Charlie was an abstract painter of some stature locally.. vastly underrated. His family never understood him, his front lawn was hardly ever mown.. freesias grew in it.. quite wonderful. When he died his daughter (who least understood his work, burned all his paintings that were at the house…) I had a two man show with him at Murulla Gallery.. I dunno what year.. I am not sure but I think about twenty survived they will form the exhibition we are having at Muswellbrook Regional Arts centre in October this year as well as publishing a book about him. I dug this shot out of the slide collection (after all what’s the good of being on a Govt grant if you cant pinch a few things, so I kept the odd portrait shot for meself) but I dug this out and scanned it to put it on Brads computer at work to remind him he has feck all time to get going with the book.. we have had another Brad free week.. he had a headache.. so I thought.. there is no way I am gonna let him weasel out of it.. so its there now as a wallpaper on his machine.. he shall see it on Tues next week.. if he comes in.. kekeke

The light in the upper right bothers me a bit but the capture an warmth are fantastic, He seems like a lad I would like to know.

I like the muted tones and light from behind. Makes an interesting capture of Charlie. Looks like a wise man. I think crop from right to eliminate the white would be better IMHO.
Be well, Stan

Solo te observo del detalle blanco en el ángulo superior derecho, molesta un poco y se podría clonar fácilmente.

Por lo demás me gusta los tonos cálidos.

Un abrazo!
