What a pretty bird here Sam - I think it is definitely the 'good side' :)) Your lighting is excellent and the dof very complimentary ...I also like the forground and what looks like a pond with reflections (?)

Joe, First off....thank you very much for the time you took to comment on my work. I couldn't agree with you more. I wasn't sure about the bg and you have confirmed my thoughts on it. On my computer the shot looks over sharp....but when I got on my work monitor it looks awesome. I think it's time for me to invest into a new Mac cinema display monitor.
Anyhow....thank you for your version. I Love what you did.

Very good shot Sam. I like the light and exposure, the pose and composition. I am impressed you could get this close with only 70mm. My only nit-pics, the dark shadow area in the background to the upper right of the bird is a bit distracting and I feel the image would look better if the bg was constant across the image. And I feel the focus on the bird's head is not as sharp or crisp as it could be.
Here's my version with the shadow removed and a little smart sharpening applied in CS3. What do you think?
