About Taken yesterday. Niagara Falls, New York. MM and I are just back from a week in upstate New York to visit Radio Boy. He is doing fine. His lung is healing well, thank you. So we went past Niagara Falls on the way home. I took several hundred photographs on the trip and you will see most of them I am sure... but this is my favorite of the bunch. A young lady looking over the falls and... thinking. It is a bit of a William Carlos Williams moment. Do you know W.C. Williams? I believe he was the poet who was angry that so many people did not get his messages… yet, his messages were so vague. The point is to make your message known in a way it can be understood without guessing at the message… William was not very good at that. So, I post this to W.C. Williams and his vague, unknown explanations. The waters at Niagara Falls tumble and rush (over 50 meters) downward. Not the highest waterfall in the world by a long shot, but high enough to make the spray do a plumeing “foosh” skyward. The “foosh” is a blank, flat, lifeless background… but I caught a tad of rushing water to the left and this young lass looking and wondering and thinking about the entire process… This image is totally William Carlos Williams… it says a ton, it speaks volumes… but without the explanation it is nothing. It is my favorite shot of the trip.

If she were to run straight ahead and leap... she would not hit water for 150 feet...

I was intrigued by this before I even knew it was a Loy.
I was especially grabbed by the water just disappearing over the edge. Water isn't supposed to do that. Summertime, and we think of water as placid, burbling, relaxing, whatever. Not murderously powerfully thunderingly suicidally plumetting in a grand 'foosh'.

Love it, Jim.
