About Held in a bit of plastic. Yep, my wallet is made of plastic. Not leather. Not some grand combination of animal skin and celebrity endorsed name brand overpriced crap. My wallet, billfold, pocket-book, brieftasche…

Let me go on a bit.

15 years ago my daughter (the lovely Eli) took her money and purchased for me, free-will, a wallet. She picked it up in grade-school. At Santa’s Secret Store. Don’t bother, it’s a Yank thing. The wallet smelled of plastic. Well, it was made of plastic. Cost her all of $2.00 American. I have used that wallet since. I have not changed or traded. I am not one for social statements. I could easily afford a billfold that has upper-class stamped all over it….
I choose to keep the plastic $2.00 one.
And what is in my wallet? I would ask all of you to share… but this is rather personal. Still, I have no shame and I give you openly and freely… my life tucked into a bit of synthetic pockets. Contents as follows:
$66.00 or a bit more… hidden in the folds. A shopping discount card. An American Express credit card (out-dated and non-functional {I have no idea why I keep it}) My Illinois State drivers License. A Home Depot (orange) card… I use it less than I should. Blue Cross Blue Shield, EYEMED… some kind of health/insurance cards. I have never used them. I don’t even know why I have them. My Social Security card. Funny thing, this. In the era of social reform, F.D.R. (president of the US) said the social security number would never be used for identification. It was for national government purposes only…. My ass.
Just below the 8, 8, no is a spare car key. I have locked myself out of my car often enough to have a spare key made. I used it just two days past to open the door.
So there ya have it. My cheap, shallow, low-scale wallet and what I have.

My life at a glimpse.

Wow, Jim. Wow. Thanks for sharing this... I feel genuinely touched by your photo and the story behind it. But of course you'd keep the $2 wallet... it was given to you out of love... you don't need some expensive piece of dead cow ass to show off your social status! Once again, thanks for this... I have a tear in my eye, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. 7++++ and a favourite.
