From Stanford University Core Campus.
Everyone knows Stanford as a great university but it is also a pleasant area to bird on a weekend. The University was founded in 1885 on the site of a well-stablished stock farm. Its 1200-acre central campus hosts 125 avian species that can be seen most years and another 50 vagrants or rarely sighted birds. Five areas- the Quad, The Arboretum, Memorial Marsh, Lake Lagunita, and the "Dish" hills- are productive birding destinations.
