You are right, the amphitheatre was built recently, but it strangely matches very well with the rest of the architecture.

This strikes me as rather intriguing after what you've told me about the history of Carbonia... a mini amphitheatre constructed in a town built on the will of Mussolini... does it provide a small architectural clue as to how he viewed himself... a twentieth century emperor, perhaps? Even if it was built at a later date after his death, it still carries echoes of his personality for me...
