Ziad,
Thank you very, very much for the explanation. Yes, it clarified a lot to me!
I am waiting my 12-24mm to arrive and as soon as I start to shoot landscapes, I will definitely look for an IR filter to shoot with it too.
Congratulations for the photo one more time!
Best regards, Bruno

Thank you Bruno. Im happy you like this.
The D70's lowpass filter (hotmirror) permits plenty of IR rays to hit the sensor. As a matter of fact, the D70 is one of the best (most sensitive) cameras to shoot IR with without modification. So you wont need to modify it at all. All you have to do is buy a Hoya R72 IR filter and attach it to your lens. Preset your white balance to anything green (grass maybe). And shoot away. The D70 will also autofocus, and sometimes meter with the IR filter attached, although you wont be able to see much from the viewfinder. If you have an SB800, u can shoot IR portraits too. But here you will have to preset your white balance on something white. (a white cieling or card). The D200 however is useless with IR photography because it has a more strict lowpass filter :(. So I will be using my D70 alot more these days! I hope my explanation helped. Best Regards, Z

Beautiful picture, Ziad! Contrast is fantastic!
Mind if I ask how did you take this shot? Have you modified your D70 to remove the IR internal filter, is that it?
Well done!
Best regards, Bruno

No offence at all. :) Heres something taken from the exact same location (notice the tree) with a D200 + 75-300 lens. Not much of a desert shot though. Regards

Thanks for explaining how Ir photography works. Thats great. I just noticed your camera and thought it was achieved in photoshop, with your body being digital.
My question still stands though. Having never visited the middle eastern desert, i would love to see the coloursinvolved, hence my question to that point.
Im sorry if i offended you by questioning your abilities.
Regards

Thanks for commenting. This was taken using an R72 IR filter attached to the lens, not a photoshop filter. So basically this is the original image after swapping the blue and red channels and a bit of sharpening. This is how IR photography works. Regards, Z

Its got interest for sure. I like the compostion, but i would like to see the image in its original state before the IR filter.
Maybe it provided more interesting colours?
