About History: The Salton Sea was formed between 1905 and 1907 when the Colorado River burst through poorly built irrigation controls south of Yuma, Arizona. Almost the entire flow of the river filled the Salton Basin for more than a year, inundating communities, farms and the main line of the Southern Pacific Railroad.

Continued filling of the Salton Sink was finally stopped in 1907, when a line of protective levees was built by boxcars dumping boulders into the breach from Southern Pacific tracks. By then, this inland lake was about 40 miles long and 13 miles wide, covering an area of about 400 square miles.

The Salton Sea is currently 35 miles by 15 miles and can be as long as 40 miles by almost 20 miles in particularly wet years.

The Shot and PP:
Could not avoid the distracting reflections of the cloud in foreground water...but I love this shot. Had to use clone stamp tool to remove some dust/flare in the shot. And one round of sharpenning via Picassa. Would be very glad to have candid comments/critiques/suggestions for improvement.

Nice composition and colouring, I like that you included in the photograph the truck and man made elements.
Very well done,

(don't care much for the white trim border though :)

Thank you John,
I think that is a brilliant idea, and I never thought about it. In an ideal scenario we should avoid intrision of man made objects, like the car, and the pole. I will post a cropped version as suggested, I believe that will portray the mood a lot better.
Thanks for your suggestion.
Regards,
Bhabesh

I really like the tone of this shot and the detail. I wonder whether it would look better without the mast and its reflection. I find it a bit distracting. Keep up the good work. John

A very good photograph Bhabesh. The sea looks so calm. It is very pleasing for the eyes. The framing is also very good. I think it is one of your best.

Hi Wayne,
Even I like the natural setting, and sure the truck does not fit anywhere in the frame/mood. But the truck was sitting there for the whole day and its owner had a blast in fishing. Tilapia is in abundance in Salton sea. And I was tied up. Thanks for your critique, and regards,
Bhabesh

Thank you John for your thoughtful critique.
I knew that the ratio could make things different, and I do have some shots with 1/3rd and 2/3rd split of the frame, and I will definitely post them. The main reason I have 1:1 here is the dilema of including the clouds and its reflections...eventhough I am a bit confused if the reflections are doing any good. I was kind of more interested to show the land/sea vs the rather uninteresting sky (1/3) in the coming shots. Please do visit my portfolio again.
Regards,
Bhabesh

Superb image!
Lovely composition and great mood!
Do like the lamp post but the truck is a little mundane for my taste. Just an opinion though.
Like the tone and technical aspects of the image.
Very well done!

Hello Bhabesh!A wonderful photo with beautiful golden tones and feeling of peace!Very nice presentation!
The only critique would be the 50/50 horizontal split. Might look a bit better with the horizon either up or down a little. Other than that this is excellent! The 'about' is very interesting! Well done Bhabesh! My best........................John

Hi Srna,
Thanks so much for the encouragement. Yes, you know it is actually not a sea, but a huge inland lake and spans 35 miles by 15 miles, and it reminds me that I should write something in the about section.
Thanks dear, and hugs
Bhabesh

Sooooooooo very peaceful Bhabesh, the sea looks like you can walk on it and I do love the tones and reflections, but most the mood as I mentioned. Gives that feeling I would like to be there and to watch it by myself :) Strong capture :)
Great seen Bhabesh :), well done !!!! :)
Hugs
Srna
