Hi, Luis - thank you. This is possibly my favourite portrait. I convert the B&W to full colour, then tone it very slightly orange ("warmer" vs blue = "colder"). There's a slider in my graphics program for this. Not enough to make it a sepia, but enough to make the blacks very deep browns. Some photographic papers apparently give a similar effect when bw images are printed on them. I think it makes B&W portraits a little more appealing.

Beautiful. What's "warmed slightly". Whatever it is it works and I would like to try it.

Thanks, Andre. I like the low key shots, too. Faces coming out of the shadows and all that. Hey - if you took a dramatic portrait while standing at the mouth of a cave, would that be "Karsh Topography"? ... LOL... sorry.

A very powerful portrait Jon! I've always been drawn towards the darker portraits like this one. A little Karsh influence maybe? Lots of emotion shown in this shot. Great job! Andre

Increase the colour depth of the digital image to 16 million colours then use a "colour balance" filter to warm it up ever so slightly. The blacks end up being more of a really deep brown and the whites acquire a bit of a light tan, for an overall richer look, hopefully mimicking the effects of a "warmer" printing paper.
