About A Hooded Merganser takes off when I get too close...

I've got a long way to go yet, but I want to thank Yamil for all of his advise on taking pictures of birds and where to go to do so (this was at Radio Road, one of his suggestions).

Thanks, Marcus. I tried and tried to get a good shot of this guy-- and I'm glad to hear that they will be around for a while and that they will get less shy. I want another crack at them!! I will be returning there to try again, it's a great place :)

Thanks for your comments, Alberto :) I took about thirty shots of this guy, and this is the only one that came out. He's a handsome guy, though.

Hi Christine....I just picked up this photo as a Favorite. It looks great. The timing when you shot the picture is simply great. Colors and focus and sensation of movement...all is great in it.
Congratulations...

Hi Cristine, excellent takeoff shot of the hoody, these guys are realy fun to shoot, I see this guy got a bit in front of you as they are really shy when they first get here, I have been shooting radio road for 6 years now, by late december there will be so many they lose there shyness. this is excellent shot of the new arrival..

Hi Christine,
I think we both got the same Hooded Merganser, but from different angles.
Take a look at this shot.

I got this pic on the small pond (left side)right in the corner of Redwood Shores and Radio Rd.
Take care.

No, no bike with me today, Jinggoy-- it's been awhile since I've been on one! I was out of there by 9:30-- then I went to the Hayward Interpretive Center and took some more photos. I had to be in Oakely by noon...

You guys used a boat today? You may not been successful, but it sounds like you had fun! Always an important element to a successful shoot :)

Did you have your bike with you? Or maybe it was someone else. I saw someone with the same gear as you this morning at Radio Road around 10:30ish when we (YS, MA and myself) met up this morning.

Talk about having a hard time getting close to these guys - YS and I used MA's boat this afternoon and tried to paddle near some migrants - long story short- we were not successful. Luckily we were able to paddle back to shore...

Thanks, Jinggoy-- it sure was hard getting close to this guy! Yep, I took the shot this morning. Yamil had told me about this area, so I took some time this morning to check it out... great spot!

Thanks for your comments, Yamil. I was at Radio Road early this morning. Good to know that the birds will hang around until April, I live in the far East Bay, so it's hard for me to get into the SF area when I'm not working. I'm hoping to get to Half Moon Bay next weekend if the weather holds. Also good to know that 2PM is the better time to take pictures, I can sleep in longer!

I saw some of Jinggoy and your shots from today, they are fantastic. Looks like you had a good outting.

Awesome shot Christine! This is how you do it, try to get close and just shoot. Did you take this shot this morning?

Awesome shot Christine.
I like the blurt effect on its wings and good job with the background.
I am glad you finally make it to Radio Rd.
It was Marcus Armani who first introduced me to this place. Because of that I always will be grateful to him. If you are patient and have the time, you can get almost every migrant duck in that pond.
The good news is that they will stay there until April, so you’ll have plenty of time.
During this time of the year the best time to shot there is after 2pm when you get the benefits of the so called “Golden Hour”.
As a matter of fact, I was there this afternoon taking pictures with Marcus, Jinggoy and Rich. And them we when to some of the other adjacent ponds.
We probably missed you for a few minutes.
If you have the time, look tomorrow for the Wood Duck at Venice beach, near the parking lot.
Take care and hope to find you in the field one of these days.
Yamil
