Natural light worked against you on this shot.
If you lack an external flash, even using the pop-up flash at a setting of -2 would have helped lighten her. The eye is instantly drawn to the brightest region in the photo, which in this case is the upper right corner, not your subject.

You CAN rescue this in Photoshop, though:
